Chapter Five — General Functions (continued)
Overview
The MessageBeep function plays a standard system sound associated with a message box type.
Syntax/Parameters
Syntax
int = MessageBeep ( [int type] );
Parameters
type
An optional int containing a sound type. The permissible values are:
MB_ICONASTERISK | SystemAsterisk
MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | SystemExclamation
MB_ICONHAND | SystemHand
MB_ICONQUESTION | SystemQuestion
MB_OK | SystemDefault |
If not supplied, the MB_OK (SystemDefault) sound is played.
Return Value
Returns an int as ERROR_NONE or a formatted error code.
Remarks
Many message boxes will play a default sound. MessageBeep can be used for other dialogs or purposes. The type of sound is dependent on the systems hardware and settings.
After queuing the sound, the MessageBeep function returns control to the calling function and plays the sound asynchronously. If it cannot play the specified alert sound, MessageBeep attempts to play the system default sound. If it cannot play the system default sound, the function produces a standard beep sound through the computer speaker.
The user can disable the warning beep by using the Sound Control Panel application.
