Chapter Five — General Functions (continued)
Overview
The GetLastErrorMessage function returns additional error information in the form of a string. This information pertains to result of the previously called function.
Syntax/Parameters
Syntax
string = GetLastErrorMessage ( );
Parameters
(None)
Return Value
Returns a string containing the error message supplied by the last function called.
Remarks
Some functions will populate the return value of the GetLastErrorMessage function with additional error information. This additional information may supplement the error code returned by the function or by the GetLastError function. If the previously called function succeeded, the GetLastErrorMessage function will return an empty string.
If an error condition exists and the failed function did not supply contextual error information, the current formatted error code will be translated to a string. To differentiate between extended and translated error strings, a translated error strings will always be preceded with ‘ERROR_’ and the designated formatted error code information. See TranslateFormattedErrorCode for additional information.
For more information on error reporting, see [Appendix of error codes] and Windows SDK.
