HTMLTableGetDiscreteCount Function

Overview

The HTMLTableGetDiscreteCount function returns the number of discrete columns within a table. Each cell on a row constitutes a discrete column position. As such, a cell specifying a column span value becomes a separate discrete column over and above the same starting column position.

Syntax/Parameters

Syntax

int = HTMLTableGetDiscreteCount ( handle hTable );

Parameters

hTable

A handle to an HTML Table Map Object.

Return Value

Returns an int specifying the number of discrete columns or -1 on failure. Use the GetLastError function to retrieve a formatted error code.

Remarks

Discrete columns are column definitions that are unique. For example, a cell in the first position with no span is considered a column while the same cell with a span becomes a unique discrete column.

It is not uncommon for tables to have significantly more discrete columns than total columns. For example, a 10 column table with straddle headings on each column will have 5 extra column definitions, or 15 discrete columns.
