Chapter SevenMath Functions (continued)

ArcSine Function

Overview

The ArcSine (asin) function returns the principal value of the arc sine of x expressed as an angle in radians, degrees or gradians.

Syntax/Parameters

Syntax

float = ArcSine ( float x );

Parameters

x

A float containing a numeric source value. If x is not a float, the data will be converted to a 64-bit floating-point number.

Return Value

Returns a float containing the principle arc sine of x in the interval [-pi/2,+pi/2] in the default angle mode or #IND on failure. Use the GetLastError function to retrieve the error code.

Remarks

In trigonometry, arc sine is the inverse operation of sine. On error, the GetLastError function will return ERROR_OVERFLOW.

The default angle mode is radians where one radian is equivalent to 180/PI degrees. Use the SetAngleMode function to change the returned units.
