The SEC has updated its list of unregistered entities that use misleading information to solicit investors. The Public Alert: Unregistered Soliciting Entities (PAUSE) list now has an additional 35 soliciting entities, four impersonators of genuine firms, and four bogus regulators.
The PAUSE List enables investors to avoid becoming a victim of fraud by informing them of soliciting entities that have been the subject of investor complaints. The PAUSE list also flags entities who are impersonating registered securities firms as well as bogus regulators who falsely claim to be government agencies or affiliates. The latest additions are firms that the SEC has found to be using inaccurate information about their affiliation, location, or registration.
Inclusion on the PAUSE list does not mean the SEC has found violations of federal securities laws or made any judgment against the entity. The PAUSE list is periodically updated by the SEC’s Office of Market Intelligence. The SEC advises investors to use the following resources to educate themselves about fraud:
