In December 2022, the SEC released its annual report on existing SEC websites or digital services under Section 3(d) of the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act of 2018. The report suggests that EDGAR Next program may be delayed.
EDGAR Next was designed to improve the security of the EDGAR system and the filing process. This entails improving the ability of filers to securely access their EDGAR account, providing for responsible management of EDGAR credentials, and simplifying access procedures. EDGAR Next may increase security by allowing single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, potentially through Login.gov. The comment period for the SEC’s Request for Comment on Potential Technical Changes to EDGAR Filer Access and Filer Account Management Processes previously closed at the end of 2021. Early in 2022, the SEC posted an announcement indicating that SEC staff is considering how the agency might address concerns articulated by commenters in response to the Request for Comment.
During fiscal year 2023, the SEC will continue the work under the EDGAR Next program to replace the following SEC login domains with the General Services Administration’s login.gov, expected to be launched in fiscal year 2024:
