On January 30, 2017, EDGAR 17.0.2 was released by the Securities and Exchange Commission. This release primarily contained updates to add two phase authentication when a filer resets a passphrase. Other changes affect Forms X-17A-5 and X-17A-5/A.
Two Phase Authentication
– EDGAR was upgraded so that it will now use a two phase authentication process to increase the security for the process of resetting a filer’s passphrase. As part of this process, a one-time security token will be issued to the e-mail address on file for the filer. If the e-mail on record at EDGAR is not valid, the filer will need to provide authorization to the SEC to have their codes reset. In the case of a company, this authorization must be on company letterhead. Any power of attorney that is used as part of the request must be manually signed.
Changes to Form X-17A-5
– Filers can now add one or more attachments of type “FULL” to the submission form types X-17A-5 and X-17A-5/A. These attachments can be designated as “Public” or “Confidential”. If a FULL attachment designated as “Public” is attached to the submission, then all other attachment types are optional.
Other Changes
– The EDGAR Portal, EDGAR Company Database, and the landing pages for all EDGAR websites were updated to remove any reference to Internet Explorer (IE) 8.0 and Firefox version 24.x, and to update the language so that the vendor supported versions of IE and Google Chrome are the recommended browsers.
Version 4.17a of the GoFiler family addresses these changes to EDGAR. If you need to update your version of GoFiler, use the Check for Updates function within your software. For a full list of improvements that were made for Version 4.17a, read our release notes.
