On April 3rd, the SEC’s
Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA) announced that the theme for April’s National Financial Capability Month is “Investing For Everyone”. Throughout April, SEC leadership and staff will promote free tools and resources that will be available on
investor.gov. The staff will also take part in investor education events nationwide that are geared toward students, underrepresented communities, older investors, and the military.
The SEC is promoting the following featured resources that teach the importance of financial capability and provide tips to avoid becoming a victim of fraud:
The SEC has a number of events planned for investors from many communities and all walks of life. Some of the nationwide activities for Financial Capability Month include:
- Older Investors: SEC leadership and staff will participate in a Facebook Live event with the AARP Fraud Watch Network and The Senior Zone radio program to educate older investors about investing for retirement and measures they may take to protect themselves from scams
- Native Americans: SEC leadership and staff will participate in the Reservation Economic Summit in Nevada to provide investor education resources that focus on the importance of creating a saving and investing plan and how to avoid fraud
- Military: SEC leadership and staff will participate in a joint outreach event with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at a military financial readiness town hall, as well as activities at a number of other military installations across the country
- High School Students: SEC leadership and outreach staff will meet with Washington, DC high school students to teach investor education basics and share the new HoweyTrade Investment Program activity
