The SEC’s Office of the Investor Advocate has issued its Report on Activities for the fiscal year 2023 to Congress. The report summarizes the work of the Office throughout the fiscal year.
The report includes the following highlights:
- practical research findings about investors’ comprehension of registered index-linked annuities and policy recommendations
- research findings about investment advisory agreements use of mandatory arbitration clauses including suggested approaches on combating abusive use of those clauses
- metrics measuring the activities of the Office including the substantial increase in investor engagement, investor submissions, and inquiries
- discussions of private markets, cybersecurity, and equity market framework
The Office of the Investor Advocate was created by Congress and is an independent office within the SEC. The Office presents the interests of investors to the SEC, assists retail investors, studies investor behavior, and supports the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee.
