The SEC’s Division of Investment Management Analytics Office has released a new report of Registered Fund Statistics, which will provide significant industry data and information on trends over time. The report is based on compiled data reported on Form N-PORT by funds registered with the SEC and designed for a wide range of users. The new report is intended to provide the public with a consistent and comprehensive view into the registered funds industry, which is comprised of more than 12,000 funds and greater than $26 trillion in total net assets under management. The Division will update this report quarterly.
The new publication contains the first aggregated report that represents both the public and non-public information filed on Form N-PORT. This information pertains to flows and returns, portfolio holdings, interest rate risk, and other exposures across US mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, and other registered funds. The majority of the aggregated data in the more than 70 separate tables of the report will be available to the public for the first time. The public also may download the statistics reported in Registered Fund Statistics in a structured format. Using a structured format will provide the historical statistical series of information with each publication of the report. Information that is accessible and usable by the public provides greater transparency into capital markets.
The contents of the report addresses the following matters:
- Number of Funds
- Total Fund Assets
- Flows and Returns
- Fund Portfolio Investments by Category, Currency, and Country
- Fund Derivative Investments
- Liquidity Classifications
- Fair Value Levels
- Interest Rate Risk
- Securities Lending
- Borrowing
