The Securities and Exchange Commission has begun accepting XBRL filings under the new 2018 US-GAAP Taxonomy. Four of the nine SEC-maintained XBRL taxonomies have been altered: the DEI, EXCH, RR,
and STPR taxonomies.
The 2018 taxonomy features some important changes of which filers should be aware. Elements have been changed, replaced, and/or deprecated, such as:
• Changes to the DEI (Document and Entity Identification) Taxonomy, including a new typed dimension as an EventDateAxis and new elements corresponding to certain EDGAR submission header fields
• Changes to the EXCH (Exchange) Taxonomy, including bringing Exchanges codes up to date with the ISO 10380 ‘Market Identifier Codes’
• Changes to the Risk-Return (RR) Taxonomy, including provisions to account for revisions in Form N-1A
• Changes to the State and Province (STPR Taxonomy), including bringing codes up to date with the ISO 3166-2 ‘Subdivision Codes’ standard
Pre-2018 taxonomies (the INVEST, COUNTRY, CURRENCY, NAICS, and SIC taxonomies) are unchanged and will continue to be accepted in the EDGAR system as is. For a more in depth review of the taxonomy changes, check back to the blog next week.
