Chair Mary Jo White announced the launch of a new rulemaking database on Thursday, September 24, in a bid to provide enhanced transparency into the Security and Exchange Commission’s rulemaking process.
The rulemaking database, called the Rulemaking Index, provides users with an index of rulemaking activity (excluding certain technical rulemakings such as rules pertaining to EDGAR Filer Manual updates). This index can be filtered to show rulemakings by their status and/or by division.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of this index is that it allows users to track rules throughout the rulemaking process. Each rule listed shows the actions that pertain to it, including all proposed rules and final rules, their SEC release numbers, and the date that each was published by the SEC.
This new rulemaking database is available as a part of the current Regulatory Actions portion of the SEC’s website. The remainder of the Regulatory Actions website has been unchanged and will continue to allow the public to view proposed rules, interim rules, public comments, final rules, and other SEC rulemaking releases.
The Rulemaking Index is available at http://www.sec.gov/rules/rulemaking-index.shtml.
