On January 23rd, the SEC announced that it will host a conference that will focus on municipal securities, which are predominantly owned by Main Street investors and help finance important public projects, including schools, roads, and utilities. This conference, scheduled for March 10th, is entitled “Spotlight on Transparency: A Discussion of Secondary Market Municipal Securities Disclosure Practices”.
The conference will bring together a variety of municipal securities markets participants, including both issuers and investors, and it will encourage discussion of the state of secondary market disclosure in the municipal securities market. Areas of focus will include: voluntary disclosure practices of municipal issuers, buy-side perspectives of the state of secondary market disclosures, Rule 15c2-12, and emerging trends and issues in the municipal securities market and their potential impacts. Conference participants are scheduled to include: SEC Chairman Jay Clayton, Commissioner Hester Peirce, Commissioner Elad Roisman, Commissioner Allison Herren Lee, and staff from the SEC’s Office of Municipal Securities (OMS). This will include Director of OMS Rebecca Olsen.
