The SEC has announced that it will hold a virtual public meeting of its Investor Advisory Committee on September 24, 2020. The meeting is open to the public via live webcast from 10 am to 4 pm EDT and will be archived for later viewing on the
SEC’s website.
The meeting of the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee will feature panel discussions on the topics of self-directed IRAs and minority community investor inclusion, a talk on the recommendation to restate and amend the by-laws of the SEC, and will conclude with subcommittee reports. Seniors, individual and institutional investors, and state securities commissions are among the broad range of entities represented by members of the Investor Advisory Committee. Section 911 of the Dodd-Frank Act established the Investor Advisory Committee in 2009 to counsel the SEC on regulatory priorities, the regulation of securities products, trading strategies, fee structures, and the effectiveness of disclosure. The Investor Advisory Committee is empowered to advise the SEC on initiatives that safeguard investor interests and enables the SEC to promote investor confidence and the integrity of the securities marketplace. Section 911 also authorizes the Committee to submit findings and recommendations to the SEC for review and consideration.
