The SEC announced on September 1, 2021 that a draft 2021Q4 update and a draft 2022 update to the SEC taxonomies were issued for the public to review and submit comments. The draft 2021 release updates the Document and Entity Information (DEI) taxonomy and the Closed-End Fund (CEF), which is a new taxonomy resulting from the Securities Offering Reform for Closed-End Investment Companies Final Rule. The final phase-in to use inline XBRL for Risk Return filings begins September 17, 2021. After September 17, all fund groups will need to comply with the Inline XBRL requirements for any initial registration statement (or post-effective amendment that is an annual update to an effective registration statement) that becomes effective on or after that date. As of Tuesday, July 27, the SEC has discontinued support for Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. Windows 7 has not been supported by Microsoft since January 14, 2020, and Internet Explorer will reach end-of-life in June of 2022. The SEC has now updated its security protocols on www.edgarfiling.sec.gov and associated websites to no longer accept legacy security credentials from computers accessing the website via Windows 7 using Internet Explorer. XBRL US will host a webinar to share updates made to the XBRL Filed Data Add-in for Excel and to discuss recent revisions to XBRL API documentation, Tools for SEC Filers, and resources on XBRL US’ Data Community page. Following its upgrade to Release 21.2, the EDGAR system began supporting the 2021 International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Taxonomy. The 2021 IFRS Taxonomy is consistent with that of the International Accounting Standards Board which was made available on the its website on March 24, 2021. On June 22, 2021, the SEC announced amendments to Volume I of the EDGAR Filer Manual pertaining to Section 4.b and the Manual Passphrase Update Request. These updates require filers who have misplaced their passphrase to provide certain supporting documentation indicating the connection between the individual(s) requesting access and the existing EDGAR account. They must also provide documentation indicating how the individual(s) requesting access connects to the individual(s) acting on that individual’s behalf. On June 22, 2021, the SEC announced that the anticipated September 2021 update to the EDGAR system will introduce a pilot phase for filing Form 24F-2. The SEC recently adopted the requirement that filings on Form 24F-2 be submitted in a structured format, as stated in the Securities Offering Reform for Closed-End Investment Companies release. The SEC adopted amendments on June 28, 2018 that required filers to use Inline XBRL (iXBRL) for both operating company financial statement information and fund risk/return summary information. Filers using iXBRL are able to prepare a single document that embeds machine-readable data directly into a human-readable document. This gives data users a simpler means to view, access, and explore the contextual information of the underlying data.
