The SEC, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB), and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) have announced that registration is now open for the Compliance Outreach Program, an event the agencies will host together in November in Denver, Colorado. The program is designed specifically to familiarize municipal market participants, including municipal advisors and broker-dealers, with their compliance obligations.
The two-day program is free and open for the public to attend but registration is required. The outreach event will be presented both in-person and virtually and will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Mountain) and Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:35 p.m. (Mountain).
During the event, the host organizations will present on topics concerning:
- Municipal Advisor Disclosure Obligations (Including Antifraud & Contractual Obligations)
- Duties of Co-Managers
- Off-Channel Communications (Including Record Retention & WSPs)
- Net Capital Requirements
- Avoiding Acting as a Municipal Advisor
- Municipal Advisor Rule Frequently Asked Questions (for Municipal Market Participants)
- Exam & Enforcement Priorities & Regulatory Outlook
- Federal Fiduciary Duty & Post-trade Monitoring
- 529 & Able Discussion
- Compliance Pain Points (Municipal Advisors and Broker-Dealers)
- Hot Topics in the Municipal Market
