IsANSICharacters Function

Overview

The IsANSICharacters function tests if a string is compliant for ANSI characters excluding white space and control characters.

Syntax/Parameters

boolean = IsANSICharacters ( string value );

Parameters

value

A string to test.

Return Value

Returns TRUE if value contains only ANSI characters or FALSE if it does not.

Remarks

This function differs from the IsANSI function in that white space and other characters are not allowed. The function will return FALSE if these characters are contained within the string.

ANSI characters are effectively 8-bit ASCII and extended 128-255 characters. This function does not check for undefined character positions above 32 (0x20 or space).

An empty string is technically ANSI compliant. In this case, the IsANSICharacters function will still return TRUE.

This function is useful when dealing with UNICODE strings that may contain non-ANSI information.

IsANSISpace — Tests a character as white space including backspace (back tab, 0x08) and tab (0x09).

IsAlphaNumeric — Tests a character for character ASCII letters or numbers.

IsAlphaNumeric8859 — Tests a character or string for ASCII letters, numbers and ISO-8859 Latin letter character(s).

IsExtendedAlpha — Tests a character to see if it is part of ISO-8859 latin alpha set commonly used in English.

IsUnicode — Tests a source 8-bit or 16-bit string as requiring Unicode.
